Logistics Solutions awarded the contract for transportation of first wind power plant in Georgia

23 February, 2016

Logistics Solutions together with its consortium partner Hareket Proje Tasimaciligi ve Yuk Muhensiligi AS awarded contract for transportation and erection of first wind power plant in Georgia. Contract has been awarded by Vestas Wind Systems AS, one of world's leading supplier of wind turbines.

Wind turbine components will arrive at Poti Sea Port in August 2016 by two vessels and should be moved to project site which is around 220km away from port. Complicated project can be treated as historical one, as before no such cargo has been moved inside or through Georgia. All components should be at project site within one month after arrival to Poti.

Project has been developed by JSC “Georgian Energy Development Fund” which is founded by Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. 100% of Fund’s shares are in the state ownership and passed to the Ministry of Energy of Georgia with management rights.

Construction of first wind power plant in Georgia will begin in March 2016.

This is the first mutual project of Logistics Solutions and Hareket in the region. Companies are quite confident that as a result of their close cooperation they will perform several other projects in Georgia and neighboring countries in nearest future.

Kartli Wind Power, a subsidiary of the Georgian Energy Development Fund and Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, will carry out the works in central Georgia’s Gori and Kareli municipalities.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will cover 70% of the total project value in the form of a loan with the remaining 30% paid by the Georgian Energy Development Fund.

According to the agreement, the bank will allocate $24 million to the project.

The designed capacity of Georgia’s first wind power plant is 20.7MW and the generated electric energy will amount to 88 million kWh.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by end of September.
